Since 2004 the President of the Institute is Angelo Munzone.




Born in Catania, August 12th 1933, Angelo Munzone graduated in Arts at the Catholic University of New York. Having dedicated himself to politics when very young, he was city counsellor for Catania from 1964 to 1985, engaging himself also in the commitments of the councillor for town planning, for personnel, for decentralization, for the municipal agencies and for economic development; further more, from 1966 to 1972, he held the appointment of councillor representing the Teatro Massimo Bellini opera theatre (in this period the opera and concert seasons of Catania were of an artistic level similar to the greatest opera houses of Europe, with the participation of singers and conductors of world prestige, such as Pavarotti, Krauss, Bergonzi, Raimondi, Cappuccilli, Bruscantini, Caballè, Suriotis, Cossotto, Olivero, Gui, Gavazzeni, Von Matacic, De Fabritiis, and also, with his debut in 1968, Riccardo Muti). From 1982 to 1984, he was Mayor of the city of Catania. Working for the provincial tourist board, from 1957, he became vice-director in 1980, and Director from 1992 until retirement. Since 1985 he has been artistic Director of the "Bellini d'oro" prize. He was artistic manager of the concert series "Catania Musica-Estate". From 1999 to 2002 he was Vice-president of the board of directors of Teatro Massimo Bellini, and in 2001 President of the Committee for the Bellinian Celebrations. In 2006 he was nominated Superintendent of Teatro Massimo Bellini, an appointment held until April 2007, when, following the unanimous nomination of the academic board of the Istituto Bellini and the enactment of Decree of the Ministry for University and Research, he opted for the Presidency of the Istituto Musicale Vincenzo Bellini/i>.
